A little Bitcoin.
A lot of sats.

A satoshi—or “sat”—is a tiny unit of Bitcoin. There are 100,000,000 sats in one Bitcoin.

Crypto words. Normal explanations.

Blockchain

A shared transaction history, grouped into linked batches called blocks. Bitcoin's network checks updates using its rules.

Wallet

Software or a device that manages the keys used to authorize transactions. Bitcoin balances are recorded on the blockchain; coins don't physically sit inside a wallet.

Private key

A secret used to authorize spending. Someone who gets it may be able to take the associated Bitcoin. Never share it.

Recovery phrase

A set of words that can restore many wallets. Treat it like control over your money. Don't enter it into links from messages or share it with support impersonators.

Mining

Computers compete using proof of work to propose the next block. Mining uses electricity and equipment; earning Bitcoin does not guarantee a profit.

Self-custody

You control the wallet's keys yourself. That gives you responsibility for security and backups, rather than relying on a company to hold the keys.
